Reviewer: Jack Wolf,
Ph.D.
'The Philosophy of
Morals & Values' is an intriguing departure from the usual
philosophical discussion. The author has chosen a relaxed and informal
style, bypassing much of the technical jargon and formality of
presentation, opting instead for a more conversational approach. This
allows easier accessibility for the lay reader, as does the more sparse
use of footnotes and other corroborative material. Not that such
material has been neglected, but there is much less than in heavily
footnoted academic tomes or "definitive studies."
Taking Objectivist philosopher Ayn Rand's division of
philosophy into the five branches or sciences of metaphysics,

then goes back into the early stages of humanity to
demonstrate how modern humanity reached, over the ages, its present
state of a subjective or emotional approach to problem solving and how
this can be restructured in order to formulate an objective approach
based entirely on reason.
The author stresses the importance of properly
educating the young because, he believes, everything a person knows can
only be what he or she has been taught. Thus, by observing experience
objectively and applying reason to that experience, the reader, by
following guidelines with regard to the philosophical sciences, can
develop a valid personal Weltanschauung that can lead to
answering such questions as "What is the meaning of life?," "Does fate
or free will rule our lives?," and "What is the nature of the
universe?," or that can lead to the formulation of such concepts as
proper governance.
It is a provocative and challenging book, one definitely in tune with
the zeitgeist of the New Age.
